BYOD stands for ‘bring your own device’ and is the policy that Oswestry School has adopted to encourage greater use of computers and portable digital devices across the school by pupils. BYOD makes use of the wireless network that was installed across the School way back in 2012.
BYOD has been a feature of Oswestry’s curriculum since September 2013 and most pupils make use of the wireless network for connecting their digital devices to the internet. All senior school pupils are expected to have a digital device in School. (Year 6 are welcome to engage with this option also). These devices are regularly used in lessons and work is often set and submitted online, although we are clear that not all tasks lend themselves to a digital approach. Traditional methods of working will still remain in the many instances where they are still the best way of progressing pupils’ learning.
We are mindful that parents may need to purchase a device for this initiative, perhaps choosing to upgrade a current device, or buying one for the first time for their children. We have worked closely with our school supplier, System Active, to be able to offer a range of devices that will allow pupils to complete all their School computing work whilst also being robust enough to withstand bumps and spillages. Whilst optional, we would still highly recommend that you purchase the three-year warranty care pack to bring some peace of mind and support should you need it.
The portal hosts a number of recommended offerings carefully chosen to suit need and purse. It will be updated with new offers as they become available. It is not a requirement to purchase from this website and you may already have a suitable device. This FAQs document has further advice. Usually please allow at least 3-4 days to arrange shipping and delivery. That said, SystemActive have illustrated some devices with longer lead times. Unfortunately due to manufacturing issues arising from the fall out of the pandemic and resultant component shortages, some devices now have a longer lead times or stock in dates identified.. A £10 charge will be made for home delivery and you must ensure that you are at your chosen address and available to collect the delivery, otherwise, you may be subject to further delivery charges.
Orders can, of course, be placed throughout the year, but please be mindful of any identified lead times.

Our School computer supplier has worked with us to offer up a few special deals below which are orderable on line and will be delivered usually within 4-5 business days.
Please note that due to unprecedented circumstances, there are currently global shortages of device components which are unfortunately beyond manufacturer and suppliers control, and this is affecting the supply of certain school recommended devices.
We will do our best to illustrate any lead times and impacts to supply on this site or, alternatively please contact edu@systemactive.co.uk to obtain more accurate information prior to placing orders.
SystemActive do carry a large amount of stock of new and refurbished devices so can provide alternative units. Should you also wish to explore alternatives, again please just drop them an email and they will get back to you.
